American Beauty Scene Analysis

American Beauty scene analysis Representation: Lester:  Sarcastic and depressed, Lester gives the audience no reason to like him. He is quite ungrateful for all his wife does for him and is child-like shown when he asks for "ice-cream". In addition to this, Lester is submissive, he does not stand up to his wife and is definitely not the man of the house. Carolyn:  Formal and caring, Carolyn controls as much as she possibly can within the family and each persons life. Behind the front, Carolyn is in despair, desperately pretending she's okay.  Jane:  Quick witted, she often makes remarks at her fathers poor efforts. Jane seems more in control of her emotions more than any other.  Boy:  Creepy as he is spying on a family through their kitchen window. In addition to this, it is incredibly random as the scene before is juts a family having dinner whereas now the family are an enigma and seem vulnerable. Mise en scene It is a typical family home with strong accen

Differences between Tabloid and Broadsheet

Image
The initial difference between the group D 'The Sun' Tabloid and the group A 'The Daily Telegraph' Broadsheet is the size and layout of the paper. It is obvious that the two newspapers strive to meet to different audience expectations , traditionally a Tabloid features a larger main headline (possibly with ellipsis) with multiple visual images and a little amount of copy unlike the Broadsheet which contains a much smaller main headline, possibly a few other headlines, and a mass of copy . In addition to this, Tabloids are expected to focus on 'soft news' including sensationalist language and celebrity lives unlike Broadsheets which centre on 'hard news' covering economics and politics appealing to a different demographic group. As you read both front pages the Tabloid mode of address is informal and colloquial with dumbed down language to appeal to a larger audience , whereas the Broadsheet mode of address is formal

Teenager stereotypes in the media

Image
Story 1;  Teenagers spend the equivalent or more than 40 full days a year looking at their mobile phones. The image used portrays teenagers to be addicted to their phones unable to even look up and smile to the camera. Upon continuing through the article it becomes clear that negative words such as glued and addicted overpower any positivity about the teenagers. This article adds to recent stereotypes that teenagers are only bothered about recent technology, supported by the fact that "children get as stressed loosing their phone as they get separating from parents". The attitudes created towards teenagers in this are unfair as not all teenagers spend so much time looking at their phones plus many do it for educational purposes. It is clear that the article is not aimed at such teenagers due to the negativity created.  Story 2; Teenagers risk their lives hanging from 650ft high crane in stomach churning video. The images used is from the "stomach churning vide

Online Digital Publications

Image
Online Digital Publications The news values of the Guardian is evidently political, focusing on Corbyn and his values mirroring that of the printed version. However, the Mail Online exemplifies a more commercial view, spotlighting celebrities and their lives once again mirroring the printed version. The differing platforms of both papers will attract different audiences, the internet versions will attract more younger generations as the internet and easy access to it is the way of current life. Even though some elders may prefer the internet versions, most will still go and buy a print copy of the paper as that is what happened in their past and stereotypically the older generations aren't as open to change and new technology as the younger generations. Upon observing both online publications, it becomes evident that the guardian invests more capital into their online brand. Due to this, the guardian's online monthly readership is much higher than the mail online, 7,65
